Basic Needs

Women Veterans Program: Since 2015, Dixon Center’s Women Veterans Program has focused on the unique challenges women veterans face as they reintegrate into their communities, emphasizing rapid crisis prevention and support. Offering a “hand-up” became even more crucial as economic uncertainty over the past year led to an unprecedented number of women veterans seeking assistance. In 2024 alone, Dixon Center assisted 150 women veterans, connecting them to resources for budgeting, food assistance, and other essential services. Additionally, 99 of these women received emergency financial aid, reinforcing Dixon Center’s commitment to empowering women veterans in times of need.

Fulfill (FoodBank of Monmouth & Ocean Counties, NJ): To address continuing challenges posed by COVID-19 and an uncertain economy, Dixon Center directed resources to Fulfill, a community-based non-profit addressing food insecurity in the coastal communities of New Jersey. Fulfill matched this donation with additional support to address basic needs for veterans throughout the northeast.

Gordon Mansfield Veteran Community: Dixon Center provided funding for basic needs support for several permanent housing-communities in Tinton Falls, NJ, and Tewksbury, MA. The resources provided fully furnished apartments for over 100 veterans.

Holiday Basic Needs Grant: During the holidays, Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services receives an increasing number of requests from veterans and their families in need of assistance. In response when funding is available, we established a “Holiday Season Basic Needs Grant” to assist veterans and military families during the holidays. This fund was designed to ease those pressures so all can enjoy the holiday season. We have identified and assisted organizations in streamline funding to veterans and families that were in need for this type of assistance. Tens of thousands of dollars have gone to hundreds of veterans and their families to make the holidays a little brighter.
