Personal Finances: Managing a budget and planning for one’s financial future can be a challenge for some veterans, military service members and military families. Deployments, relocations/change of duty station orders and unplanned medical expenses can throw a proverbial wrench into the best-laid plans. To address these, Dixon Center worked with the Foundation of Financial Planners to provide 2,000 veterans and military families with competent financial advice at no cost and with no strings attached.
Prudential Financial Wellness Portal: Dixon Center assisted Prudential with ideas and solutions for the Prudential Financial Wellness Portal. This portal provides users access to information on key financial topics such as managing day-to-day expenses, savings, and investments, and protecting for the future. The site contains educational articles, videos, infographics, and interactive tools for self-assessments, budgeting, and life insurance needs.
Community One Source (COS) was a project run under the Easterseals brand, that provided veterans, military service members and their families with one place to call to obtain vital information. Acting as a navigator of and connector to appropriate resources for amongst other things financial wellbeing, COS empowered service recipients across the country to take the information and then contact the resource directly. If the veteran or family member felt overwhelmed or for some other reason couldn’t reach out, the COS team made an initial call for them, and then created a direct link between the service recipient and the resource. The bridge that COS created for veterans and family members helps them regain or maintain stability in their lives.
Financial Planning4Vets: FP4V provides financial planning services for veterans at three sites – Syracuse, New York, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Salem, Oregon. Dixon Center, leveraging the Easterseals network, provided online access to financial planning tools for military and veterans families. Financial planners provided workshops and pro-bono one-on-one financial consulting services to veterans, as well as an orientation to the financial planning field as a potential career. This project assisted 500 veterans and their families to become financially stable through education, information, consultation and access to financial planning tools.
