Veterans Day 2023
“I do hereby call upon all of our citizens to observe, November 11, as Veterans Day. On that day let us solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom.”
– President Eisenhower, in his proclamation establishing November 11, Veterans’ Day, October 8, 1954
On this Veterans Day, we, at Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services, ask that you make this a day of outreach and conversation. Find a celebration or ceremony in your local community, where you can connect with veterans and their families (click here, for events in your state). Reach out to veterans you work with and veterans among your family and friends and go beyond “thanking them for their service.” Ask them to share their story of service and engage them in conversation and continue these conversations long after Veterans Day is over.
