Outreach & Communications Update

“Build a strong digital presence, utilizing social media to foster relationships and expand visibility.”

– Outreach & Awareness: Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services: Three-Year Business Plan (FY26–FY28)

Over the past six months, we strengthened our outreach and communications initiatives and spoke directly to our primary audience: people and organizations that integrate, empower, and improve the lives of veterans and their families.

We use outreach to serve, engage, and advocate on behalf of veterans and their families. Here are a few recent examples:

– Serving those who support and serve veterans. We advanced 13 policy proposals and ideas, led or participated in 24 conferences, workshops, and public events, and earned 40 media mentions and event appearances.

– Engaging with the Nation’s veteran community. Our team publishes The Bugler – our weekly newsletter – as a cascading annual report for our 3,088 subscribers. We collaborate with veteran service organizations, including The American Legion and Soldier On, as well as other organizations with national reach and local impact.

– Advocating by fostering, strengthening, and expanding community-based connections for veterans and their families. We launched our sixth season of the Service Before Self Podcast and continue to grow its audience. Our In the News Blog Series continues to attract readers and generate positive feedback. Our development team actively engages donors and expanded our donor gifts to include hoodies, pullovers, socks, travel mugs, and drawstring bags. We also continue planning the Center’s Holiday Reception (12.10.26) – the best night of the year.

– And we continue to do so much more.

The Center does not provide direct services; instead, we serve those who support and serve veterans and their families. To advance this work, we focus on three outreach and messaging goals:

  • Build public awareness.
  • Encourage community involvement.
  • Promote community-based services.
