Veterans Forward-Communities Assisting Veterans, Maine Edition

Veterans Forward-Communities Assisting Veterans, Maine Edition

Maine is a big state with a small population, but it is blessed with one of the highest per capita population of veterans of any state in the union. The rural nature of the state and distances required to travel create challenges when it comes to access to services and supports for veterans of the Pine Tree State. With the assistance of Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services, Veterans Forward has been created by Fedcap Serving Maine. Veterans Forward provides veterans, service members, and their families critically needed support in emergency situations such as housing, substance use treatment, home heating assistance, food and clothing, and job training across the state of Maine.

Veterans Forward couldn’t have arrived at a more critical time.  The challenge of living on a fixed income forces many of our veterans to make hard choices between food, fuel, and medical care.

It is Summer now but with Winter always just around the corner in Maine, these choices can have real life and death considerations. Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services stands at the ready to help organizations like Veterans Forward in Maine and those like it across the nation assist veterans and their families so they can thrive in their communities.

Donors React to Memorial Day & Basic Needs

Donors React to Memorial Day & Basic Needs

Thank you to our donors who throughout the month of May made donations to Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services. These donors made memorial gifts in remembrance of a loved one who has passed away. By giving a donation in memory of a family member or friend, these donors are recognizing a special individual while also affirming their shared values and commitment to our nation’s fallen over Memorial Day Weekend. In June, we were honored to receive investments supporting Women Veterans Emergency Financial Assistance. This crisis intervention program recognizes the unique financial challenges women veterans face in creating stable, fulfilling lives for themselves and their families as they reintegrate into civilian life.  Our donation process is simple and quick. In just 30 seconds, your donation will be on its way to enable our veterans and their families to succeed where they live. And again, thank you to our nearly 2,000 donors.

Celebrate & Share Your Patriotism On July 4th

Celebrate & Share Your Patriotism On July 4th

July Fourth celebrates the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It’s a showcase for patriotism. But what does all of this really mean?

Patriotism comes from the heart. It’s what you believe and what you care about. It’s a sense of belonging and part of the culture one embraces.
In the military, service members and their families live it during each and every mission they undertook.

Many of those who served are now veterans. They fought for our country, our families, our neighbors, our community, and our buddies on the left and the right. We will all be celebrating the Fourth and checking on each other.

Some of our team will spend the morning at Mount Vernon, home of George Washington, who led the military movement for independence. Close to 246 years later, members of our Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services served on multi-national military teams committed to carrying forward this belief, participating in the fight for three other countries (Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan) to have independence. In the afternoon, we will join co-workers, friends and family celebrating our 10-year anniversary of continued service to veterans and military families so that we all can live happy, productive, independent lives.

Embrace the day! What will you be reflecting on while you recognize our nation’s freedom and your own patriotism?

Easier To Give

Easier To Give

We are pleased to announce that as part of our 10th Anniversary celebration we have created a QR Code that is making it easier for supporters to give donations supporting our work by creating a truly unique Scan-to-Donate Now (QR Code).

As a leader, our director of development, Vanessa Stergios is constantly looking for easier ways for our donors to give. Our friends and supporters will be seeing us using our QR code in creative ways, including:

  • As a quick and easily shareable way to direct people to our Donate Now form or social media or in email campaigns
  • On direct mail or fundraising packs as a way for people to donate or even view multimedia that will tell the Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services story in different ways
  • As a way to add contactless donation to public advertising – like we did during our 2021 Vision Summit with their advertising boards
  • On merchandise such as mugs, pins, shirts, on our business cards, and signs

Sara Heidenheimer, our program and administrative manager determined the “QR Code to be a cost-effective way to reduce the use of paper at events, where users can be directed to our recently redesigned webpage instead of handing out fliers. We will stop printing and save money.”

This is an exciting time for Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services as it is our 10th Anniversary. Since May 13, 2012, Dixon Center’s collaboration and capacity building has impacted more than 2.4 million individuals and organizations. We are also very proud of the fact that every dollar that supports our work was donated by American patriots like you. Based on our financial statements under the umbrella of The Fedcap Group, 88% of total expenditures went directly toward programming.
