New Website to Kickoff 10-Year Celebration

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our brand-new website. The new dixoncenter.org beautifully displays our full list of highlights, latest themes, work pillars, program details, and information about our team and history.

The Bugler e-Newsletter, blogs and Service Before Self Podcast have been fully integrated. You can expect even more quality posts and links to our social media.

Our new website is also fully receptive and ready for all shapes and sizes of smartphones and tablets. This project was undertaken by Sara Heidenheimer as lead designer. We can’t say enough about Sara’s amazing work.

The strategy behind the new website is to modernize the look and feel, improve the accessibility, user-ability, and functionality of the site, and attract more visitors in need of our services as a resource for individuals, organizations, and communities interested in the long-term wellbeing of our veterans and their families.

The launch of our new website also kicks-off a three-month celebration leading up to Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services 10-year anniversary. During the next three months, our followers will get treated to insights and memories from our history, interviews with longtime partners and staff, and a retrospective of our work.

Founded in 2012 by our Chairman, David Sutherland, and former President, Kimberly Mitchell, Dixon Center is proud of the legacy it has built based on its noble purpose to make the lives of our veterans and their families better.

Since 2012, by moving from a model of crisis intervention to one of crisis prevention, our collaboration and capacity building has impacted more than 2.4 million individuals and organizations. We started with an internal team of just 4 and now with the support of our parent organization, The Fedcap Group, we are approaching a team of 250 employees, consultants, contractors, volunteers, and ambassadors.

Witnessing our growth and success is a testament to our passion.

Grant Received for Work with Purpose

Grant Received for Work with Purpose

Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services is honored to announce a $348,000 grant from a partner foundation. This investment will be used to assist in the growth of our flagship project working with organizations to assist transitioning service members, veterans, and their families to achieve economic empowerment.

Our partnership supports service members before and after they exit the military and provides a clear path for increased quality of life and stability. As we begin our seventh year of working together, the foundation’s investment in Dixon Center has created growth with multiple independent partner organizations.

Working together our collaborators are providing training resulting in credentialing, commercial driver licenses and certifications leading to meaningful employment in the transportation industry and building trades.

The foundation has been making investments across the country through grants that have a profound effect on underserved populations, including those who have fought for our country.

This grant will allow us to build on the success we’ve achieved in assisting thousands of veterans across the nations with the opportunity to work with purpose.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day

National Vietnam War Veterans Day

Today is National Vietnam War Veterans Day. March 29th was established as a day to recognize the sacrifice of those who fought in Southeast Asia. There are 610,000 living veterans out of the 2.7 million who served in Vietnam.

Our nation owes an eternal debt of gratitude for their sacrifice and that of their families. Today’s veterans can talk about their combat experiences in large part because our Vietnam veterans could not or would not. Much of our battlefield knowledge and effectiveness can be attributed to what we learned from our Vietnam veterans. Thankfully, our nation has learned how to separate the warrior from the wars because of the way this generation of veterans dealt with the adversity of coming home from combat. Today and every day, at Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services, we work to honor their service and vow to double-down on our efforts to include this generation of veterans and their families. With your help we have been able to make the lives of all generations of veterans better.

Veterans in Piping Partnership

Veterans in Piping Partnership

Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services is partnering with the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry (UA) Veterans in Piping (VIP) program. The UA VIP Program provides job skills training and certification leading to guaranteed employment as a United Association apprentice.

Dixon Center is providing influence, ideas and actions to increase the impact of the VIP program. Together we will accomplish our shared goal of making the lives of our veterans and their families better. This is our mission, to ensure our veterans and military families can succeed where they live and that every organization, across all sectors of society, effectively integrate veterans and their families into their organization and existing programs. The operating highlights of Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services are part of a comprehensive financial statement package of Fedcap Rehabilitation Services, Inc.

We are proud of our GuideStar recognition with the 2021 Gold Seal of Transparency and the audited financial statements ending September 30, 2019, 88% of Fedcap’s total expenditures went directly toward programming.

Our Approaching 10th Anniversary

Our Approaching 10th Anniversary

This July 13th we will celebrate our 10th Anniversary.

Leading up to this auspicious milestone we will be sharing our favorite moments, recognizing our partners, and highlighting our achievements.

To kick off the celebration, watch for the launch of our new and improved website designed and coordinated by our Program and Administration Manager, Sara Heidenheimer.

This is an exciting time for Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services. It is the opportunity to double-down on our noble purpose: to make the lives of our veterans and their families better. This is the chance to build upon the success across our 3 pillars, 13 programs, and 356 projects over the past 10 years.

We will use this celebration to recommit ourselves to our mission to ensure our veterans and military families can succeed where they live and that every organization, across all sectors of society, effectively integrate veterans and their families into their organization and existing programs.

With our donors, partners, supporters, and most of all our veterans and their families, we will be celebrating. That said, we recognize that we have so much more to do.

2021 Annual Impact Report Available

2021 Annual Impact Report Available

Today, Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services released the 2021 Annual Report. This report tells the story of our approach and how we challenge – and change – the status quo based on the evolving needs of our veterans and their families. We are not creating new programs. Rather, by enabling the integration of military and veteran services into existing programs we’re increasing impact in our three pillars: Work with Purpose; Heal with Honor; and Live with Hope.

In his Annual Report Chairman’s letter, Retired Army Colonel David Sutherland advised that “In the post-pandemic environment, our country and world will need more resilient, nimble, and creative leaders like our team at Dixon Center.” He said, “This leaves me feeling convinced that our work here at Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services, as a member of The Fedcap Group, is more relevant than ever.”
